Description Taunton State Hospital is seeking an experienced Plumber & Steamfitter II. The successful candidate will supervise and install, alter, replace, repair and maintenance of steam, heating, water supply, drainage, disposal, and sanitary systems throughout the hospital buildings and campus.



Please Note: This position is 40 hours per week. The incumbent will work on the day shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 pm. Days off are Sunday and Saturday. *Position will support all sites in the Southeast Area.







Duties and Responsibilities (these are a general summary and not all inclusive):

• 
  
  
• Supervises and repairs and maintenance of hot and cold water lines, check water lines, sinks, showers, shower controls, pressure regulators, kitchen equipment, and sprinkler systems.
  
  
• Supervises and repairs and maintenance of water lines, sewer lines, gas lines, fire protection lines, steam lines and air lines including all fittings, fixtures, manholes, clean outs, and other appurtenances which make up the various systems.
  
  
• Requisitions materials and supplies, estimates costs of work and length of performance time, takes samples for testing by EPA.
  
  
• Does housekeeping to keep the plumbing shop clean, free of hazards, safe and tidy.
  
  
• Works with other support service people to form teams on multidiscipline work activities.
  
  
• Works with outside vendors who are employed to perform specialty activities related to the plumbing and heating systems.
  
  
• Completes work orders in the facility's maintenance management system for preventive maintenance and non-scheduled maintenance.
  
  
• Works with the Taunton Fire Department to fire hydrant and water line operative.
  
  
• Flushes domestic water lines to clear sedimentation from lines.
  
  
• Conducts in-service training or tradesworkers as it relates to plumbing and steam fitting.
  
  
  
  
  
  Qualifications Necessary for this Function:
  
  
  
  
  • 
    
    
  • Considerable knowledge of steel, malleable, cast and galvanized iron, clay, glass, concrete, transits plastic, orange surg pipe, copper tubing, fittings, valves, fixtures, hand and power tools, saws, chisels, hammers, dies, stocks, taps, drills, torches, soft lead and silver, gauges and measuring devices.
    
    
  • Working knowledge of laws pertaining to plumbing sanitation and safety precautions as they exist under state plumbing and steam fitting codes.
    
    
  • Ability to check, test and locate failures and malfunctions and execute corrective measures.
    
    
  • Ability to read, interpret and work from plans or sketches and to follow written or oral instructions and to keep accurate cost and maintenance records.
    
    
  • Ability to work and perform physically arduous tasks under adverse conditions or extreme heat, cold, dampness and humidity; and to stand for prolonged periods.
    
    
  • Ability to track plumbing supplies and order materials as needed.
    
    
  • Ability to caulk and pack lead joints, cut and clean and fit and solder cooper tubing and to cut and thread pipe.
    
    
  • Physical stamina and endurance including lifting and carrying of heavy objects and working in cramped or confined spaces.
    
    
  • Ability to schedule work, evaluate, train, discipline, motivate and review subordinates
    
    
  • Must possess valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operators License (Class D) or equivalent in the state in which you reside

        Taunton State Hospital (TSH) operated by the Department of Mental Health (DMH) is a 45-bed inpatient facility that provides continuing care inpatient services to adults with major mental illnesses.         Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in plumbing and steamfitting.
