Summary of the role
The Production Shift Manager is responsible for the direct line
management of the production processes. (S)he is expected to take
ownership of his/her shift, ensuring safe operation and that
his/her shift performs as required to achieve the manufacturing
objectives. This individual must be fully trained in all aspects of
safety, production, quality control procedures, as well as
supervisory techniques. While many of the job responsibilities
listed in this document are not explicitly given to the Shift
Manager all of the time, the Shift Manager will be called upon to
perform these tasks during his/her shift. They will also be
responsible for developing, training and reviewing all production
standard operating procedures as well as work instructions.
As the leader is his/her shift, the shift manager is required to be
an incident commander so that (s)he can ensure that his/her shift
remains safe should an emergency arise.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate training of lead and production operators.
All job performance metrics on operators and cell leads assigned
including quantity, quality, attendance and overall job performance
records.
Writing and maintaining job performance reviews on operators and
cell leads assigned.
Keep operators and cell leads informed of any pertinent information
the company needs to be passed along
Act as first responder to any and all concerns of assigned and
escalate concerns when deemed necessary
Train new operators in all aspects of the operator job
specification to include certification
Manage workflow and set work priorities during shift for
production. This includes coordinating personnel assignments based
on production needs
Run reactors as required
Responsible for maintaining an appropriate level of moral and
motivation for assigned shift
Interview new production personnel and provide input to hiring
decisions
Produce daily status reports that are deemed necessary by the
Manager of Operations.
Ensure safety and cleanliness of the cleanroom environment
Ensure production problems are addressed quickly and
adequately.
Equipment and/or Machines to be used by Employee:
PC based Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD)
reactors.
Tencor Surf Scan particle measurement system
Lehighton contactless resistivity measurement system
Microscopes
Wafer handling material including carriers, sorters, and vacuum
controlled handlers
Particle monitors
Qualifications / Essential Skills
Management experience working as a supervisor in a production
environment
Strong leadership, organizational and record keeping skills.
Act as point contact person for all internal, customer, and ISO
audits.
Working knowledge of SPC
Clean room experience
degree in relevant technical field or equivalent experience
necessary to perform job responsibilities
