Engineer Taunton, Massachusetts Position Summary This position is
responsible for executing compound development projects as a part
of the Technology R&D Materials organization. The position is
located in Taunton, Massachusetts Nature & Scope Reporting to the
Specialty Compound Manager, this position is responsible for
leading compound development projects and is accountable for
communication and delivery of results to the broader Technology
team. The R&D Materials Senior Engineer will apply a systematic
and designed experimental approach to develop new polymeric
compounds and evaluate changes in material performance prior to
commercial scale-up in our manufacturing plants. Specific Job
Duties \n Leads or supports cross-functional project teams in
production-scale compounding and prototype processing trials within
the applicable Prysmian manufacturing facility associated with
compound development projects. \n Work with a wide range of rubber
(CSPE, CPE, Neoprene) and plastics systems to drive cost reduction
and enhanced performance from bench scale to commercialization. \n
Develop material specification and quality test programs to ensure
robust compound performance. \n Investigates and applies new
polymer and additive technologies from a variety of suppliers. \n
Leverages polymers and materials experience to identify and execute
projects which improve compound/cable Sustainability and carbon
footprint. \n Works to tight deadlines as well as contributing to
longer term R&D projects. \n Coordinates laboratory experiments
through Technical Service Requests. \n Supervises daily activities
of the R&D Materials laboratory technician in order to complete
project tasks. \n Creates and modifies compound specifications
(including relevant raw material codes) to support the production
of new or existing compounds \n Prepares informative and accurate
technical reports. \n Updates and maintains records/database on
compound changes or modifications. \n \n Key Characteristics \n
Ability to work as an individual or within a team \n Sound
technical skills and attention to detail \n Ability to handle
multiple work assignments \n Excellent communication skills at all
levels of the organization \n Motivated, self-starter \n \n
Education Qualified candidates will possess a minimum of a B.S.
degree in Chemical or Polymer Engineering, Chemistry, or related
discipline. Advanced degree preferred. \n Experience Qualified
candidates for the R&D Materials Senior Engineer position
should possess at least 3 years of experience with demonstrated
expertise as follows: \n Hands on experience with Polymer Compound
development and processing \n Experience with specialty rubber
(CSPE, CPE, Neoprene) and plastic formulations, as well as
different flame retardant technologies \n Good understanding of
Structure Property Relationships of Polymer blends \n Proven track
record of delivering projects and communicating results \n Previous
experience with Polymer Compound development in the wire & cable
